Resume Distribution

Do you need more quality contacts to send your resume to? Today’s job market requires marketing yourself to the right company at the right time. There are hundreds of resumes received per job opening.Additionally, in An Easier Way to Change Jobs, Gerberg states, "Job hunting success depends 70% on marketing and interviews and 30% on background and ability." This translates into both knowing where to direct your resume and sending sufficient volume to achieve your desired results. Consider Choice and Leverage, Speed of Impact and Exposure to the Right People.

Choice and Leverage
A fundamental mistake that many job seekers make is to go about their search in a serial manner, meaning that the amount of marketing they exert is only enough to generate 1 opportunity/offer at a time. What if the job seeker had the ability to multiply the effort by a factor of 2, 5, 10 or even 50? Only the benefits of a targeted direct mail campaign make this possible. There is a tremendous advantage to be gained by having more than 1 offer on the table at the same time. Not only does it provide choice (such as specific location of the company, the responsibilities of the position, chance for advancement and stability of the company), it also provides leverage. Leverage is your ability to play 1 offer against another to find out how much you are really worth. Certainly you have an idea of what you will take, but having multiple offer situations lets you optimize your negotiating position and maximize your income potential.

Speed of Impact
The question is not, "How long do you need to search before you find your next job?" The question is, "How long are you going to search before you exert the necessary marketing effort to find your next job?"

Consider that a job seeker might send out 200 resumes per month (via all methods) and it takes 5 months to find the right opportunity. Now imagine if the same job seeker could have targeted 1000 quality contacts within companies in the first month. The same amount of marketing effort is exerted in both cases, but 1 search could be 4 months shorter. Expend the necessary marketing energy and get on with your career.  Delay is expensive. Unemployment or underemployment can cost you tens of thousands of dollars while your search continues. More importantly, delay could mean taking a position out of desperation rather than choice.

Exposure to the Right People
It is a well known statistic that 85% of all available positions are not publicized. How do you get in front of decision makers while they are assessing their needs? Only a targeted direct-to-decision maker campaign can reach this huge market quickly and effectively.

The number of resumes we recommend for our clients is based on individual income level, industry focus, experience and search parameters, as well as our current response rates. When speaking with your advisor, you'll learn what strategies work and how to increase the odds of success in your mail/email campaign, including how to find ideal positions locally by targeting companies outside your industry and geographic preference.

"When you're trying to focus on smaller companies, you  have no idea who's looking where...the networking process can take you forever and by the time you hook up with a company...they may have already filled that spot. I think that's where (targeted mass mailing) really is the way to do it when you're looking for small organizations." Director of Consumer Brand Management

"I had 5 or 6 callbacks the next day. I had so many, I couldn't return them all. And that's after spending a couple of months having no responses whatsoever." Marketing Executive

Careers By Design® laser prints the resume and cover letter with your signature. We individually address each letter to the key executive selected. We have found that, no matter what your level and function on the corporate ladder, more consideration is given to your resume if it is sent directly to an executive then sending it to the HR department.

This is a numbers game with some risk of failure. Usually the more exposure, the more phone calls you receive. The purpose of the resume mailing/emailing is to increase your exposure, and that is our objective, to increase your exposure. However, there can be no guarantee that you will receive a phone call, interview, or offer from just your targeted mail/email campaign alone.
